IGTCloud Real time analytics for Big Data - a Twitter case study Hadoop's batch-oriented processing is sufficient for many use cases, especially where the frequency of data reporting doesn't need to be up-to-the-minute. However, batch processing isn't always adequate, particularly when serving online needs such as mobile and web clients, or markets with real-time changing conditions such as finance and advertising. In the same way that Hadoop was born out of large-scale web applications, a new class of scalable frameworks and platforms for handling streaming or real time analysis and processing is born to handle the needs of large-scale location-aware mobile, social and sensor use. Facebook, Twitter and Google have been pioneers in that arena and recently launched new analytics services designed to meet the real time needs. In this session we will review the common patterns and architecture that drive these platforms and learn how to build a Twitter-like analytics system in a simple way using frameworks such as Spring Social, Active In-Memroy Data Grid for Big Data event processing, and NoSQL datbase such as Cassandra or Hbase for handling the managing the historical data. Participants of this session will also receive a hands-on tutorial for trying out those patterns on their own environment.

If you have ever launched a brand new technology product for enterprise buyers, you have heard this line a million times. For every reason to buy your product there seems to be five reasons not to. And with cloud-based solutions even more issues such as security, availability, control, and integration are added to the equation. But despair not. You can actually learn to anticipate your market's resistance, and design your product, marketing, and sales processes in ways that will allow you to sail through the roughest seas and even enjoy the ride. In this session I will describe practical steps you can take to overcome resistance. Apache HBase is a database-like layer built on Hadoop designed to support billions of messages per day. This talk describes the reasons why Facebook chose Hadoop and HBase over other systems such as Apache Cassandra and Voldemort and discusses the applications requirements for consistency, availability, partition tolerance, data model and scalability. We explore the enhancements made to Hadoop to make it a more effective realtime system, the tradeoffs we made while configuring the system, and how this solution has significant advantages over the sharded MySQL database scheme used in other applications at Facebook and many other web-scale companies. We offer these observations on the deployment as a model for other companies who are contemplating a Hadoop-based solution over traditional sharded RDBMS deployments.

In his role as President & Chief Revenue Office, Dicso will drive the go-to-market strategy, sales execution, business development and revenue growth for SundaySky to support the growing market demand for the company’s solution. Prior to joining SundaySky, Dicso was EVP Sales and Services for LivePerson, a leading provider of SaaS-based real-time online customer engagement solutions, from Dec 2004 to Feb 2011. During his tenure, LivePerson business solutions revenue grew from $17M to $96M and operating earnings grew from $2M to $30M. While at LivePerson, he built the enterprise sales organization from scratch and led the extended sales and service organization in developing and executing the go-to-market strategy while also leading the introduction of new business models to scale the business. Prior to LivePerson, Dicso held multiple sales leadership roles in his two years at Witness Systems and eight years at Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC), including a four-year assignment in the UK and Europe. Prior to that, Jim served in a variety of sales positions over four years with Xerox Corporation.
